This Saturday evening we had a corn roast at the Centre multi-ethnique St-Louis in celebration of the 1st anniversary of our outdoor recreation programming for newcomers and everyone! In August 2010, the Association Récréative Milton-Parc invited me to organise a canoe-camping weekend for the Centre, marking the first official activity of ARMP’s ‘Programme de plein air interculturel’. Happy birthday to us! Thanks to the 15 or so who came out on a rainy evening for a corn roast. Everyone had participated in an outing or activity at some point since last summer, whether cross-country skiing, canoeing, kayaking or urban hiking. It was a great and friendly crowd, and so fun to have this mix of people all together and to see everyone again! We boiled up some corn in ARMP’s gigantic corn roaster. A few people learned what a corn roast actually is, and the origins of the name in French – épluchette de blé d’Inde. And thanks for all the delicious contributions to the potluck! We had participants from Romania, Mexico, France, Algeria, Ontario, BC, Québec, Turkey, Japan, the United States and Iran. We saw a slideshow of photos from the various activities – good memories and inspiration for our next outings!
