Ce dimanche 7 juillet, Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) organise un événement qui s’appelle Festivague. Il y aura moyen d’essayer gratuitement des kayaks et d’autres embarcations. C’est ouvert à tous, que vous soyez débutant ou expert.
Où ? Le centre de location d’embarcations nautiques du parc Jean-Drapeau. Voir ici (au numéro 24) pour l’emplacement exact.
Quand ? L’événement se déroulera de 10h à 16h, dimanche 7 juillet.
Personnellement, j’y serai à partir de 12h30, s’il y en a qui aimeraient me rejoindre sur place ! Je vais essayer de trouver un lieu où je pourrais vous attendre près de l’eau où on peut voir les activités. Si vous arrivez plus tard, on sera sans doute dans les vestiaires ou sur l’eau! Voici ma photoau cas où, pour ceux qui ne me connaissent pas encore.
Comment ça marche ? On aura l’opportunité d’essayer différentes embarcations gratuitement, pour 15 minutes à la fois. On pourrait essayer autant qu’on veut. Il y aura des kayaks de mer et de rivière, ainsi que quelques canots et probablement des surfs avec pagaie. Il y aura des personnes sur place pour donner des conseils. Sur place on nous demandera de signer une décharge et de porter une veste de flottaison.
Pour des enfants ? Il y aura des ateliers gratuits de kayak pour enfants à une heure prédéterminée. Veuillez vérifier icipour les infos. Il faudrait les inscrire à l’avance directement auprès de MEC. Poids minimum requis – 60 livres. Âges : de 6 à 9 et de 10 à 12. Pour l’essai gratuit des embarcations, les enfants de moins de 14 ans doivent être accompagnés d’un adulte.
Comment se rendre ?
Métro Jean-Drapeau (ligne jaune). En sortant du métro, il y a des bus sur la gauche qui mènent jusqu’à la plage. Demander le centre de location d’embarcation au conducteur – ce n’est pas le premier arrêt. Sinon à partir du métro, on peut y aller à pied.
C’est également agréable d’y aller en vélo, par le pont Jacques Cartier ou alors de la Concorde.

This Sunday July 7th, Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) will be organising a free event called Paddlefest. You’ll be able to try out kayaks and other boats. It’s open to all, whether you’re trying for the first time or an advanced paddler.
Where? It’s happening at the boat rental place at Jean-Drapeau Park. See here (at number 24) for the exact location.
When? The event will be going on from 10 am until 4 pm on Sunday July 4. I will be there as of 12:30 pm if anyone would like to come and paddle with me! I will try to find a spot near the water to wait for you, where we can watch the various activities. If you get there after 12:30 pm, we will probably be in the changerooms or on the water. Here is my photojust in case, for people who haven’t met me yet.
How will it work? We’ll have the chance to try out different kinds of boats for free, for 15 minutes at a time. We can go out and try the boats, then bring them back and try another one – as many as we want. There will be sea kayaks, river kayaks, a few canoes and likely some stand-up paddleboards to try. There will be MEC and other staff onsite to give us some pointers. They’ll have us sign a waiver and wear a lifejacket (provided).
Can kids participate? There will be special FREE kayak workshops for kids, scheduled at specific times. Please check herefor exact times and to pre-register. There will be two groups: 6 to 9 year-olds and 10-12 year-olds. Kids will need to weigh a minimum of 60 pounds to participate. As for trying out kayaks and canoes in general, kids are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult if under 14 years old.
How to get there
Go to metro Jean-Drapeau on the yellow line. When you exit the metro, a bit further on your left there will be buses going to the beach. Ask the driver to let you off at the boat rentals (not the first stop). It’s also possible to walk from the metro station.
It’s also quite lovely to bike down, via the Jacques-Cartier Bridge or the De la Concorde Bridge.

Bathing suit, towel
Lock
If you wear glasses, don’t forget a string to tie them on
Sunglasses, hat, sunscreen
Sandals or other shoes that could go in the water, if you have them
