As the holiday season approaches, here’s a chance for you share the highlights of winter with newcomers. Donate by December 31, 2023 and sponsor a low-income newcomer to help them discover the joys of winter! Our goal this year is to reach 1000 participants in our activities. Your generosity will help new Montrealers settle in by introducing them to winter activities such as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

For many newcomers unfamiliar with our long winters, this period often brings feelings of isolation. Engaging in winter sports as a group enables them to build a social network, get used to our climate, practice French, explore nature and embrace local cultural traditions.

Thanks to you, we’ve introduced more than 6,000 newcomers and other Montrealers to outdoor recreation since we began in 2010. To view our report from last winter, please click here.

Donate now to help a newcomer settle in and adapt through our affordable and friendly winter activities!

Here are examples of how your donation will help:

  • $50 will allow a newcomer to take an introduction cross-country ski lesson in a small group with a certified instructor, gear provided.
  • $100 will allow a newcomer to register for a weekly snowshoe outing throughout the winter.
  • $250 will allow a newcomer to rent cross-country skis for the season, register for a weekly snowshoeing outing every week as well as for 2 introduction to cross-country skiing courses.
  • $500 will allow a newcomer to register for all of our snowshoeing outings, a weekly ski outing to discover Montreal’s parks, ski rental for the season, and 5 cross-country ski lessons with a certified instructor.

Our participant Nurul* wrote how donations helped her access the program, learn to love skiing and meet new friends: “The winter of 2021 marked a transformative period for me, a Malaysian used to constant summer conditions. The pandemic imposed restrictions on social interaction, so I had to find outdoor activities that allowed for distancing. Discovering Plein air interculturel’s subsidized cross-country skiing lessons was a game-changer. Through virtual sessions, I embarked on this unconventional learning journey, eventually transitioning to in-person sessions as restrictions eased. Fast forward two years, and I’m back, determined to master the sport. The Montreal By Ski weekly series in 2023 not only refined my technique but also fostered an active ski community among participants. I met friends! Beyond the joy of skiing, this experience has helped me conquer a fear of falling. Plein air interculturel’s initiative not only introduced me to this wonderful activity but also provided unexpected personal growth.”

Yes, I want to make a difference!
