Learn Kayaking Along the Lachine Canal

DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITY

Come try sea kayaking along the Lachine Canal, with certified instructors from Parks Canada and Plein air interculturel! Spend around 2 hours on the water learning the basic paddle strokes while meeting other paddlers and enjoying the canal landscapes.

Cost: $5 plus taxes. We will reimburse this amount after the activity as long as you truly participate in the activity.

Please choose one of the courses only, in order to allow space for the maximum number of people.

Dates:

  • Thursday August 18th during the day – several time slots
  • Friday August 19th in the afternoon – FULL

PREREQUISITES AND ELIGIBILITY

This introduction to kayaking is intended for beginners who have little or no experience on the water, but you must be in good physical condition is necessary in order to paddle properly and be able to fit in the kayak.

This activity is not recommended for people who cannot swim and/or who are afraid of water.

Kayaking can be done alone or in pairs. Solo kayaks are reserved for ages 16 and up. Double kayaks can be used by 2 adults or 1 adult plus a child age 5 and up. Each adult and child must register. Each child under 16 must be accompanied by an adult registered for the activity. CThe activity is not suitable for people with reduced mobility. Animals are prohibited in the kayaks.

MEETING POINT:

There is a parking lot along Mill Street at the Peel Bassin next to the Lachine Canal. To get there by subway or by car, follow these Google directions.

Then, walk to meet the Parks Canada paddling team at the Mill area next to the bank of the Peel Basin. Paid parking is available. It is also possible to park in the surrounding streets. 

WHAT TO BRING

– Please dress according to the weather.

– Water, snacks, sunscreen, hat.

– Some cash if we have a snack together after the activity

– String to attach your glasses

– OPUS card, RAMQ card or other health insurance

– Supplied: kayak, paddle, flotation jacket, small waterproof bag to store your personal items

REFUND POLICY

Parks Canada is offering us this activity for free. We will reimburse you for the $5 fee plus tax after the activity, as long as you actually participate in the activity, or if you notify us in writing of a cancellation at least 3 business days before the start of the activity. Please avoid last minute cancellations to give others a chance.

The activity will take place rain or shine. Please dress accordingly. However, ARMP and Parks Canada reserve the right to cancel or postpone the outing in the event of a storm or poor water quality, even at the last minute. We will notify you if this is the case.
